Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN), Indonesia's state-owned power company, has concluded a binding agreement with HydroWing for the country's first tidal power plant. The facility will be built in East Nusa Tenggara and is planned to have a generation capacity of 10MW.
PLN and HydroWing previously signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the project in 2022. HydroWing will be responsible for the feasibility study, technical specifications and planning for the operation and maintenance phase.
The plant in East Nusa Tenggara is part of a larger initiative by both companies to advance tidal energy in Indonesia. The location for this initial step was decided based upon the presence of strong marine currents.
