Kenya's Nuclear Power and Energy Agency (NuPEA) has recently stated that construction works for the country's first nuclear power plant are slated for 2027. If progress is made on the project, operations could begin by 2034.
Kenya is the latest African country to announce plans for nuclear power initiatives. The segment is increasingly seen in the continent as an alternative for meeting its rising demand for power. Over 90% of the Kenyan energy matrix comes from renewable sources.
Kilifi County is one of the locations considered for the installation of the future power station. Meanwhile, the country still works on the regulation of nuclear power developments in Kenya.
