Deltic Energy has announced the discovery of gas at the Selene prospect. The company is a partner in the Shell-led joint venture responsible for the project in the UK North Sea.
The well, located in Block 48/08b in the southern North Sea, encountered a 160-metre section of Leman sandstone. Subsequent wireline logging and fluid sampling confirmed a live gas column above a gas-water contact at a depth of 3,370 metres, with analysis indicating a maximum gas column of 100 metres.
The resources in high-quality sand should support a simpler and cheaper development option with greater gas production per well than was envisaged pre-discovery. Deltic Energy stated that it will progress toward Selene's field development project (FDP) and final investment decision (FID) without requiring an appraisal well.
