SSE Renewables has nearing completion at the Viking wind farm in the UK. With a total capacity of 443MW, the project in the Shetland Islands, Scotland, is reaching the final commissioning stage.
Full power and official operations should take place in the next months. It's calculated that the power plant required a total investment of £580m.
SSE Renewables broke ground on the Viking in 2020, and the last of the 103 Vestas turbines was installed in 2023. According to the developer, once up and running, Viking will be the UK's most productive onshore wind farm, generating approximately 1.8TWh of green energy per year.
