A Hitachi Energy-Chantiers de l'Atlantique consortium has been awarded a contract worth €4.5bn for the development of onshore and offshore conversion stations in France. These assets will be connected to three offshore wind farms.
The work, commissioned by France's electricity transmission system operator RTE, is related to the Centre Manche 1 (1GW), Centre Manche 2 (1.5GW) and Oléron Island (1GW) projects.
The contractors will carry out the construction of three offshore direct current platforms and three onshore converter stations.
It is expected that the consortium's high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission system in Normandy and Oléron Island will make the integration easier.
