Australia has awarded feasibility licences to six offshore wind projects currently under development in the country. These offshore wind farms will be located off the coast of Gippsland, state of Victoria.
According to the Australian Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW), the 15,000km² area announced in December 2022 has a potential power generation capacity of 25GW.
The group of projects include Gippsland Skies, High Sea Wind, Blue Mackerel North, Ørsted Offshore Australia 1, Kut-Wut Brataualung and Star of the South Wind Farm.
Other six offshore wind farm licences have also advanced to consultation with First Nations, said the DCCEEW.
