Spanish authorities have granted Iberdrola an administrative authorisation to move on with the Valdecañas pumped storage hydropower project. The company is now allowed to begin construction of the 275MW facility.
The project, which will be located on the Tagus River in Cáceres, will feature a battery system hybridised with the gensets. The battery will have a capacity of 15MW, reaching 7.5MWh of stored energy.
Combined with the hydraulic units, the total energy reserve will be of up to 210GWh, avoiding the emission of 200,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.
