The commissioning cargo of the Alexandroupolis floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) was delivered to the terminal on 18 February by the GasLog Hong Kong liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier. Alexandroupolis is Greece's first FSRU terminal.
As soon as the cargo is unloaded, the terminal, previously an LNG carrier built in 2010 named GasLog Chelsea, will be able to start commissioning tests.
The conversion of the former LNG carrier to the current FSRU was executed at the Seatrium shipyard in Singapore in 2023 during a period of ten months.
Once commissioning tests are over, Alexandroupolis should enter operations in the first quarter of 2024, with a sustainable regasification capacity of 5.5 billion cubic metres per year.
