Dominion Energy has successfully secured the final two federal approvals required to commence construction on the Coastal Virginia offshore wind project. The planned 2.6GW power plant is designed to feature 176 turbines and three offshore substations.
The project received approval from the United States' Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) regardings its construction and operations plan (COP) and a permit clearing the path for the transmission line issued by the US Army Corps of Engineers.
Once operational, Coastal Virginia will be the largest offshore wind farm in the US, capable of powering up to 660,000 homes. Start-up is expected in 2026.
