The second development phase of the Al-Dur 2 Independent Water and Power Project (IWPP) has been inaugurated in Sitra, Bahrain. Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, who is also Prime Minister of Bahrain, was present during the inauguration ceremony.
The facility was built on scheduled and followed all sustainable procedures. It the the first power plant in Bahrain to the 400kV transmission network.
Total investment for the completion of phase 2 of Al-Dur 2 is calculated at US$1bn, with the participation of companies from Bahrain, Japan, and Saudi Arabia.
The IWPP project has a production capacity of 1.5MW, which is enough to process 50 million gallons of desalinated water per day. This takes Bahrain’s total production capacity to 5.044MW, with 204 million gallons of water per day.
