The construction for a new 400kV power substation in Bengeworth Road, Lambeth has been launched by National Grid and Linxon. The substation is one of the projects covered by the National Grid’s London Power Tunnels initiative.
This new facility is being developed on the same site of an existing substation from UK Power Network. It will be connected in the centre of the LPT line, between Wimbledon and Crayford.
Completion for this substation is expected in 2026.
London Power Tunnels, which seeks to rewire South London by installing deep underground tunnels, is a seven-year long project worth £1 billion. Besides replacing ageing equipment, it will also expand the city’s transmission network.
