About this event

The UK and Europe has long been at the forefront of offshore wind, setting global benchmarks with bold ambitions, cutting-edge technology, and comprehensive policy frameworks. The region is home to some of the world’s most advanced offshore projects and has maintained its position as a leader in the sector for years, with six new farms commissioned in the last 12 months. However, this maturity also means the UK and Europe has been at the sharp end of the industry’s challenges.

Europe currently accounts for 43% of the world’s offshore wind capacity, but pressures are mounting as the UK aims to meet its 2030 offshore wind target of 55 GW (including 5 GW floating). Despite a substantial pipeline of 96.4 GW, only 43 GW is expected to be achievable by 2030. The region also faces a looming wave of decommissioning, with more than 7,000 turbines expected to reach end-of-life by 2050.

At the same time, Europe’s growth potential remains enormous, with over 411 GW of capacity proposed across 386 projects. This pipeline is driven by leading markets such as the UK, Germany, Netherlands, and Denmark.

The Energy Industries Council’s latest report warns that without aligning investment decisions, port upgrades, grid readiness, and supply chain commitments, both the UK and Europe risk falling short of their targets. This webinar will unpack these challenges and opportunities, providing a clear picture of how the sector can pivot to meet ambitious goals.

Join us on 16 September for an in-depth webinar exploring the current state and future direction of offshore wind in the UK and Europe.
