About this event

The EIC is proud to be organising and managing the UK Pavilion at Wind Energy Expo & Conference Japan 2025, taking place on 28 Feb - 1 Mar in Tokyo, Japan.

WIND EXPO is Japan's largest Wind Energy Trade Show. The exhibition will feature all major sector equipment including turbine components, gearboxes, generators and hydraulics, power conversion equipment, project services and more. Companies will have the opportunity to meet and network with leading developers, turbine manufacturers, power generation companies and local authorities. The event is aimed at companies looking to develop new business opportunities, gain technical insights and consultations as well as building and strengthening early business relationships.

Expectations are high for the Japanese offshore wind market in 2025 with the anticipated auction of four new offshore wind development zones off the coasts of Akita, Chiba and Nagasaki Prefecture. The auction marks the first step in the path to up to 10GW of potential operational capacity by 2030 for offshore wind, with up to 4GW of floating foundation technology and 6GW conventional bottom-fixed projects. Industry stakeholders continue to push for a target commitment from the Japanese government for installed offshore wind capacity, particularly as part of the country’s renewable energy goal of 22-24% by 2030.

Over 12GW of offshore wind developments are currently in the pipeline in Japan, with up to 5.4GW at an environmental impact assessment (EIA) phase. The Akita and Noshiro Port offshore wind projects were the first to enter the construction phase in early 2020. The Japanese market is set to benefit from existing maritime experience and manufacturing capacity in the wider Asia-Pacific supply chain for project components. The UK supply chain can offer its expertise in project management and execution, marine coordination and installation activities, manufacturing, operations and maintenance and project development. With major international developers including Ørsted, Equinor, Northland Power, RWE Renewables as well as Engie and EDPR having confirmed their interest and future involvement in the Japanese market, it’s a long-term opportunity not to be missed.
